Miscellaneous papers, ca. 1795-1825.

The collection comprises three unrelated items. 1. Letter from Lenoir to a friend and collaborator in his endeavor to rescue and restore the monuments and artifacts being seized, dispersed and damaged by the revolutionary government. Lenoir is sending his friend (presumably the sculptor Daujon) samples of stained glass, enamels and mosaic, along with a report, so he can analyze the colors and other physical details. He notifies him that he has asked the Comité d'Instruction [Publique] for authorization to assemble the endangered monuments in a collection and prevent the dilapidation. The letter was presumably written several months before Lenoir was appointed conservator on October 25, 1795, and started organizing the Musée des Antiquités et Monuments Français. 2. Diploma issued by the Société Philotechnique de Paris to Mr. De la Bouille as correspondent member, dated October 2, 1825, and signed by Debret (Président) and Alexandre Lenoir (Trésorier). 3. Engraved portrait of Lenoir, signed "Em. Gastebois, sc. d'ap. Beauvallet."

3 items.
